Dear Fellow Members,

Spring – time of renewal and regrowth! Green, both the fresh color and the philosophy are finally here in Northern California. As sustainability takes hold in our society, I hope this is a turning point for our business and the economy. It is the time of showcase homes, and tradeshows, such as Hospitality Design in Las Vegas. If you read this before May 15th, it’s not too late to join ASID at HD for the student portfolio review! We are looking for both practitioners and students to participate. Contact Lindsay Marshall at lmarshall@asid.org to join and lend some feedback to a student.

A new bill is in Assembly committee.  California AB2482 is legislation to create a Registered Interior Designer act. For all the educated, experienced, and tested Interior Designers in California, and for all the students now studying Interior Design, I hope for a future that allows them to practice to the full extent of their ability.  Our students are trained in space planning, research, project management, codes, CAD, and 3D rendering, to mention a few subjects. For those interested in a more technical approach, training in BIM is also available. A Registered Interior Design Act would give them the chance to show what they can do, and to run their own businesses.

Board Training is scheduled for August 4th and 5th. California Central/Nevada new and returning board members will join with California North and California Peninsula for two days of training with staff from National. This is a much needed training and a time to connect with others in the same director position.

This year we are looking forward to presenting Design Excellence Awards, after many years. Our planning committee is hard at work to bring this event to Sacramento, along with our Annual Meeting and Social. All combined, this should be a wonderful event that you won’t want to miss! Save the date: September 29th. Hope to see you there!
