“What is genius – but the power of expressing a new individuality?
- Elizabeth Barret Browining
Dear Fellow Members,
Fall is such a refreshing time of year! With cool crisp air comes renewed energy and as we begin this new year, let’s reflect on why we became interior designers. For me, it began with the desire to express myself artistically. That desire is still there, but somewhere along the way I realized I have the ability to change people’s lives. And so do you. In these troubled economic times, it remains true – we are profoundly affected by our surroundings. Our clients still need us. We bring order and harmony into their lives, we help them to express themselves, we solve problems. Projects may be on hold, budgets may be smaller, and the usual ways of finding clients have changed. Remember the skill and talent you have nurtured and developed over the years and how it can bring joy, inspiration, or perhaps efficiency to the clients who do choose to benefit from your expertise.
Reaching out to the public is one of my goals for this year. The Home Expo is going to be one of these venues. Join us in getting the word out – design is fun, design is uplifting, design is renewal. The Design Excellence competition is long overdue for our members. Join us in planning and competing so we can showcase talent. Our Industry Partners are a key part of our success. Strengthen those relationships by attending events to meet, mingle, and learn. Join us and participate in a committee; let’s work together to strengthen the relationships that can sustain us through these difficult times.
Wishing you health, prosperity, and happiness in the coming year.
