Seven years ago Cathy Nason, ASID went from being a sole-proprietor working under her own name, to being the Owner and Principal Designer of Spirit Interior Design. This change reflected Nason's desire for her business to be as spiritual as it was successful. As a designer, she got to know many people and saw that in some cases, despite people having their material things in their beautiful homes, their lives were falling apart - having everything that money could buy was not bringing them happiness. An avid practitioner of Meditation for the past 20 years, Cathy felt this discontent in her clients, and sought to find a solution.

Bringing Spirituality into the business was hard at first. The Spirit staff began to educate themselves about different aspects of Sustainable Living, having a smaller impact on Mother Earth, and being more thoughtful when picking materials for both interior finishes and furniture. Cathy felt that an essential part of the design process was to consider the source that their selections came from, whether it was from an animal that was harmed in the process or wood that wasn't FSC certified. It was also important to ask about the working conditions of those that are making the products in other countries and, using local resources whenever possible to support our community and to minimize long-distance shipping. The company has often opted to forego the monetary profit to be made in specifying a low-cost overseas import, in favor of staying local and knowing that this lesser impact benefits everyone.

Her design team is now on board with practicing sacred commerce and creating sacred spaces. The team meets weekly to set intentions, clear one another, and get in touch with healing methodologies which strive to benefit all.

Spirit Interior Design is a full service interior design studio, gallery and showroom located at 10009 West River Street in Truckee, CA.

The studio maintains a broad portfolio of projects including residential and commercial design, office planning, hospitality, retail and health care facility design. Cathy Nason and her staff believe in environmentally conscious design, working with Feng Shui influence and the spirit of Tahoe integration

Awards & Publications

A graduate of the Interior Design Program at the University of California , Long Beach , Cathy Nason has been a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for 21 years and is a multiple winner of the "Design Excellence" award by the association. Cathy's work has been featured in several national and regional publications including Sunset Magazine, Inside Today's Home, Tahoe Quarterly, Sacramento Magazine and The San Francisco Chronicle. She is registered with the State of California as a Certified Interior Designer and continues to travel extensively to expand her knowledge of the arts and architecture. Her most recent journey was a spiritual pilgrimage through multiple cities of india.
