Designer Profile

Iris Byers, founder of Byers Guide, is a lifelong member of the home furnishings industry. Growing up in family-owned retail furniture stores gave her the design skills, training and client experience necessary to strike out on her own.

In 1980, after serving as Director of Education for Ethan Allen as one of the first women corporate executives, Iris founded her own company, Byers Guide. She has created and provided design training programs for more than 200 design studios and retail stores nationwide that are still in use today.

Her renowned design skills have been featured on HGTV’s “Homes Across America” with Joe Ruggiero. On one episode, she taught vocalist Leslie Uggams and the audience how a professional designer transforms the client’s vision into a plan. HGTV also filmed Iris twice to showcase her recently remodeled personal residence where she demonstrated to the viewers the use of color and importance of scale, balance, rhythm and harmony.

As a contributing editor and stylist for publisher Conde’ Nast, she was featured in House Beautiful, House and Garden, and Home Magazine. She was named 1995 “Designer of the Year” by Sacramento Magazine.

While she has designed commercial installations for major companies, she loves residential design and providing specific attention to each client’s needs and wants. She has provided her unique design expertise for individual clients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, New York and Paris, France.

Iris loves to travel which has taken her around the world and greatly influenced her range of design and style.
